Georgie has over 23 years’ experience providing support to vulnerable young people and adults in a variety of therapeutic settings working as a teacher, pastoral support worker, children’s residential support worker, school counsellor and advocate and within many of these roles has undertaken the role of safeguarding lead.
Georgie has a specialist interest in attachment theory, how the past informs the present and connections between mind and body. She also holds valuable personal insight into how upbringing, cultural identity and personal values can impact wellbeing. She is passionate about supporting clients (Young people 16-19 and adults) as they embark upon their own, unique, personal, emotional journey, helping empower them to reach their own solutions, gain increased self-awareness and emotional resilience by talking through, and reflecting upon feelings and emotions and exploring their origins. Georgie does this in a very warm, gentle and approachable way, offering a safe non-judgemental space for the client and their journey.
Georgie’s personal, lived experience of the challenges life can present and the subsequent impact upon personal and professional relationships and general wellbeing, makes for a very empathetic, understanding approach to counselling, which focuses upon person centred strategies and solutions. However, Georgie also believes in utilising additional approaches in counselling relevant to individual needs and these can include implementing CBT and psychosocial models and techniques. Georgie believes in a pluralistic approach to counselling and not a ‘one size fits all’ approach because people are different and therefore require different types of therapeutic intervention to help them cope with life’s challenges and work towards positive change. The values of the pluralistic approach come from a person-centred tradition, but the aim is to bring all therapeutic traditions into a harmonious body of therapy. Georgie aims to work with individuals to find interventions that will be most useful to them as individuals.
