Dean is a calm, warm and approachable counsellor who works pluralistically, believing there is no single “one size fits all” approach to therapy. He builds relationships with clients quickly, creating a safe, non-judgemental space in which they feel comfortable exploring the challenges present in their life.

Dean sees our uniqueness as individuals as what makes us human, and he is genuinely curious about each client’s distinctive way of being in the world. He works to help clients feel more at home within themselves while also supporting them to grow, which sometimes means gently setting down old patterns that are no longer serving them.

Central to Dean’s approach is a belief in each client’s power and autonomy. Rather than offering answers or direction, he works to understand a client’s lived experience and to help them feel truly heard — often the starting point from which people begin listening more closely to themselves. This process can uncover things previously outside conscious awareness, building greater selfawareness, self-compassion and self-acceptance, and a stronger ability to engage positively with
relationships, environment and life as a whole.

Dean believes we must attend to all parts of what makes us human — physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal and spiritual — for a truly enriching life, and that counselling can help us connect to and nurture each of these. He has a particular interest in mindfulness and meditation, which informs both his own grounding and, where helpful, his work with clients — for example in supporting people to develop a healthier relationship with difficult emotions rather than treating
them as something to suppress or be rid of.

He has found that being truly heard is often itself a powerful starting point, and from there, working
at the client’s pace to gently explore the roots of their problems can begin to loosen its grip.
