Your 7-Step Journey with Rainbow Medical

When you contact us from the start, we will offer you a supportive approach for you from our team. Our pathway ensures a structured yet personalised approach to diagnosing Autism. Each step offers a holistic view of your experiences while ensuring the utmost care and accuracy in the diagnosis process. Collaboration with professionals who specialise in  ASD is imperative throughout this process.

Step 1. Initial Neurodiversity Screening.

Step 1 involves Pre-appointment Questionnaires for completion, capturing developmental history, current symptoms, and concerns.

This will be followed by an online or in-person appointment to discuss the results of the screening questionnaires and to gather some other relevant information, such as:

  • Personal details: Name, age, contact information, and the primary language spoken.

  • Medical history: Any previous diagnoses, current medications, or relevant family medical history.

  • Developmental history: Milestones, early childhood behaviour, school reports, etc.

  • Current concerns: Specific behaviours or difficulties that prompted the need for evaluation.

At the end of the screening appointment, we will:

  • Provide immediate feedback, if possible.

  • Recommend further evaluation or refer to specialists for additional assessments (e.g., speech-language pathology, occupational therapy).

  • Discuss the need for a GP referral if medication is going to be needed.

  • Discuss whether you should continue with the autism pathway or the ADHD pathway. At some point, we may also have a combined pathway, where you will decide which pathway you would prefer to follow.

If the decision is to continue with the autism pathway, we continue with the next step in the pathway….

Step 2. Childhood and Adult Experience Assessment

Step 2 is an Online Interview between a clinician and someone who knows you well, such as a family member or close friend. This session will focus on discussing your childhood experiences and adulthood.

Step 3. In-Person Assessment of Strengths and Difficulties

Step 3 is an in-person Appointment (ADOS-2) with a specialist clinician will be scheduled. This appointment is designed to explore your strengths, experiences, and difficulties in various domains.

Step 4 Team Analysis

Step 4 is Collaborative Analysis between our team of specialist senior clinicians. This involves analysis of all assessments so far, including the pre-appointment questionnaires.

Step 5 Feedback and Recommendations

Your Step 5 appointment involves our Diagnosis and Feedback. You will have a session in person or online with a clinician to discuss the results from the assessments and the team’s analysis, and it will be based on one of our CQC-approved sites. A formal diagnosis will be given with recommendations tailored to the individual’s needs, including a discussion on the meaning and implications of the diagnosis in the context of your life.

Step 6 Comprehensive Documentation

You will receive a Personalised Written Report Post-analysis.  This may include a formal diagnosis, if applicable, and clear recommendations for any necessary support or interventions. With your consent, this report can be shared with other professionals (e.g., therapists and educators) to aid in the individual’s care.

Step 7 Post-diagnostic Support

Step 7 involves Follow-up Sessions: We will offer the possibility of follow-up sessions to check on adaptation and address any emerging concerns or challenges. The follow-up sessions may include the following: obsessive-compulsive disorder) neurological disorders (for example, epilepsy)
