ADHD can be a confusing condition because some of the symptoms are quite normal depending on the stage of life, and they are also associated with other conditions, such as anxiety. This means you can never be sure if you have ADHD or not based on the symptoms alone.
That is why you should consider getting an ADHD diagnosis if you have struggled with some of the symptoms associated with ADHD, or to rule out ADHD. My Solution Wellbeing offers ADHD assessment and diagnosis in Sheffield, ensuring you get the answers you need without the long wait.
Signs You Need an ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis
Just having ADHD-like symptoms is not enough to warrant an ADHD assessment. However, it is a good starting point, and if you have struggled with these symptoms for many years, you have an even stronger reason to get an assessment. Some of the common symptoms that push people to consider getting an ADHD assessment and diagnosis in Sheffield include the following:
Inattention
Inattention can make it difficult to stay focused, follow instructions, complete tasks or keep track of responsibilities. People struggling with inattention may lose items, forget appointments, miss details or find that their attention drifts even when they are trying hard to concentrate.
These effects may affect various aspects of life, including work, home life, and relationships, as well as schoolwork and deadlines, among young adults and children.
Overactivity
Overactivity is often easier to notice in children because it presents in their physical behaviour. You may notice the child constantly fidgeting, moving around, talking excessively, or having difficulty sitting still. They may also seem constantly on the go or struggle with quiet, structured activities.
In adults, overactivity presents differently and is not necessarily in physical behaviour. Its presentation may include mental restlessness, always feeling busy and ready to go and unable to relax even when you’re exhausted.
Poor Sleep Patterns
Many reasons can contribute to poor sleep, and ADHD is one of them. Individuals with ADHD may struggle to settle at night, tend to feel more alert around bedtime and wake up frequently in the middle of the night.
Other challenges and symptoms that may suggest getting an ADHD assessment include challenges with emotional regulation, where individuals overreact and struggle to relax after getting agitated, social navigation challenges, and impulsivity.
ADHD Assessment Process At My Solution Wellbeing
Our private ADHD assessment process is tailored to meet the needs of every individual we work with. We have simplified the process to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the results, and we use standardised and recognised tests and questionnaires.
The steps involved in the process include:
Screening and Medical History
We begin with a thorough assessment of your medical history and screening to better understand your symptoms and how they have affected your life. During this stage, we use standardised questionnaires and involve your family and other close people to help us better understand your challenges.
Once the information collection is complete, you will receive an appointment with a qualified professional to review the data and results. During this session, we will determine whether further testing and assessment are necessary, depending on whether your symptoms warrant further investigation or our clinicians determine that they are not consistent with ADHD.
DIVA Assessment
If the clinician determines that additional testing is necessary, we will start with a DIVA Assessment, which may take up to 120 minutes depending on the complexity of the symptoms. This assessment will examine the symptoms you have, including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
Just like the medical screening and history, you will sit down with a qualified professional at the end of this assessment to review the results and determine the best way forward.
Report and Diagnosis
It is critical to ensure you understand the outcome of your assessment, especially because an ADHD assessment lacks a definitive test that confirms or rules out the diagnosis. If there is a positive diagnosis, the clinician will help you understand how they come to that conclusion and even provide you with a comprehensive report that you can use for further treatment and treatment pathway consideration.
The Cost of Private ADHD Assessment in Sheffield
Unlike public NHS ADHD assessments, private options have a cost attached to them and understanding the cost can help you better plan for the assessment. At My Solution Wellbeing, we keep our rates competitive and only ensure you pay for the assessments you need.
The assessment cost is broken into two. The first cost covers medical screening and history; if necessary, a second DIVA assessment may be required, depending on the outcome of the history and screening, and a second cost is applied. You can contact our office or visit our website for the latest assessment costs.
