If you have been struggling with symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, emotional dysregulation and social relationships for as long as you can remember, you might be having ADHD or other conditions that present with the same symptoms. The only way to be certain is to get an ADHD assessment from our office in Liverpool.
Who Should Get An ADHD Assessment in Liverpool?
In some cases, the symptoms and struggles you experience are normal and a part of the growth process. In other cases, the symptoms could indicate a more serious underlying cause, such as ADHD or anxiety.
Knowing the signs to look for and when to get an assessment can make a lot of difference. Some of the common symptoms associated with ADHD include:
Inattention
This is the most common symptom, often characterised by difficulties staying focused, completing tasks, following conversations, or even following instructions. Inattention can present differently in childhood and adulthood.
Impulsivity
Impulsivity is also quite common among people with ADHD. It is common to struggle to hold yourself back, often making quick decisions or reacting strongly in the moment, leading to friction and misunderstandings.
Overactivity
Not all children or adults will exhibit signs of overactivity. This is because it can present differently. Not all children are hyperactive, and this does not mean they don’t have ADHD because overactivity can present differently in children and also in adults.
Emotional regulation
ADHD can make feelings feel intense and difficult to manage. It is easier to get more overwhelmed by emotions and respond poorly to stressful situations. Emotional regulation gets worse when combined with poor sleep patterns.
The one thing to note, in addition to these symptoms, is that they must be long-term and consistent. They may evolve, but if you have struggled with them for years, it is a good idea to get an ADHD assessment in Liverpool.
How the ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis Process Works
We use a standardised approach to ADHD assessments using recognised tools and questionnaires to ensure you get the most accurate results. Our assessment process includes the following:
Step 1: Medical History and Screening
The first step is Medical History and Screening. During this stage, we gather information, such as medical and neurodevelopmental history, using standardised questionnaires. After we gather the information, we set up a session to discuss the findings and determine whether the assessments need to go further or if your symptoms are not consistent with ADHD.
Step 2: DIVA Assessment
If further testing is required, we will move to the DIVA assessment, which will look deeper into the symptoms and compare how the challenges have evolved. The information gathered is then analysed by qualified practitioners who determine whether your symptoms and other factors are consistent with ADHD or there’s something else that could better explain your symptoms.
Step 3: Diagnosis, Reporting and Treatment Pathway
In the last step, our clinicians will review the test and questionnaire results and provide a report based on the assessment outcome.
If ADHD is diagnosed, we will also provide a report outlining next steps and recommendations, which may help when you seek support from your employer or school.
