What Signs Suggest You Should Get an ADHD Assessment?
Knowing whether you need an ADHD assessment is critical because it is not always that the hallmarks of ADHD point to ADHD. If you have been struggling with the following symptoms consistently and for a long time, you should consider getting an assessment.
Inattention
Inattention can make it difficult to stay focused, listen for long periods, follow instructions or complete tasks. You may misplace belongings, forget appointments, leave jobs unfinished or feel as though your mind drifts during conversations.
Impulsivity
Impulsivity can involve acting or speaking before thinking things through. You may interrupt others, make quick decisions, become impatient or struggle to pause before responding.
These patterns can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, regret or conflict. It is not usually about being careless on purpose. It may be linked to the way ADHD affects self-control, attention and decision-making in the moment.
Overactivity
Overactivity is often associated with children who find it hard to sit still, but it can look different in adults. A child may fidget, move around frequently, talk excessively or struggle to stay settled during structured activities.
For adults overactivity may feel mentally restless, constantly busy, unable to relax or as though your thoughts are always moving. This can make it harder to switch off, rest or sustain attention for long periods.
Difficulty with Emotional Regulations
ADHD can affect emotional regulation, making feelings feel intense, sudden or difficult to manage. You may become frustrated quickly, feel overwhelmed by small setbacks, react strongly to criticism or struggle to calm down once upset.
These emotional responses can sometimes be misunderstood as moodiness or over-sensitivity. In reality, they may be part of how ADHD affects the brain’s ability to pause, process and regulate emotions.
Poor Sleep Patterns
Poor sleep patterns are common for many people with ADHD. You may struggle to settle at night, feel alert when you should be resting, wake frequently or find it hard to maintain a consistent routine.
When sleep is disrupted, daytime symptoms can become harder to manage. Poor sleep may affect mood, concentration, memory, motivation and emotional resilience, which is why it is important to look at your wider wellbeing during assessment.
Challenges with Social Navigation
ADHD can also affect social navigation. You may interrupt without meaning to, miss social cues, change topics quickly, talk fast or find it difficult to maintain friendships consistently.
For some people, these patterns lead to feeling misunderstood or rejected. An ADHD assessment can help you make sense of social difficulties and understand whether they are connected to attention, impulsivity or emotional regulation.
What Does the ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis Process Look Like?
We have a simplified but effective ADHD assessment process that is broken down into three distinct steps that include the following:
Medical History and Screening
The first stage is Medical History and Screening. During this phase, My Solution Wellbeing gathers family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through standardised questionnaires. This helps build an initial understanding of your symptoms, background and current challenges.
You will then attend a feedback session of around 60 minutes, either face to face or online. During this appointment, further information is gathered, the questionnaire findings are discussed and the next steps are considered.
If the findings suggest that it is appropriate to continue with the ADHD pathway, you can move on to the next stage.
DIVA Assessment
The second stage is the DIVA Assessment to look into the different symptoms associated with ADHD. This assessment also looks at your history with these challenges and compares them to your current challenges.
Reporting, Diagnosis and Treatment Pathway
The third stage is Reporting, Diagnosis and Treatment Pathway. During this step, you sti down with one of our qualified practitioner to discuss the outcome of the assessment and determine whether your symptoms are consistent with ADHD.
If the diagnosis is positive, we will provide you with a report and also suggest possible next steps where appropriate.
What is the Cost of a Private ADHD Assessment in Leeds?
The cost for the Medical History and Screening is £300, while the DIVA Assessment costs £1,200, and the total cost for the ADHD assessment and diagnosis package is £1,500.
